ZARANJ (PAN): A private security guard was killed and two others injured when a suicide attacker detonated his explosives-packed motorcycle near a convoy of trucks carrying supplies for foreign troops in southwestern Nimroz province, officials said on Sunday.
The guards were escorting the convoy en route to Herat from Kandahar province when came under attack in Dilaram district, the district chief, Khodaidad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The dead and wounded security personnel belonged to a private security firm called ‘Angar private security company’, he said.
The suicide bomber’s body was charred beyond recognition, the official said, adding civilians suffered no casualties in the blast, the first of its kind since March.21, 2011 in Nimroz.
Meanwhile, police seized 100 kilograms of drugs from a truck on the Zaranj-Kang road on Saturday, deputy police chief, Col. Mohammad Musa, said. The truck driver was detained in connection with the opium, he said.
