Afghan, Iranian scholars for mutual cooperation

KABUL and Iran on Tuesday agreed to launch joint efforts at addressing religious differences and improving relations between the two neighbouring countries.

A large number of religious scholars from the two countries attended a conference titled as “Developing Afghan-Iran relations and removing obstacles in working together” in Kabul on Tuesday.

“Afghanistan and Iran enjoy religious, cultural and linguistic relations. Developing educational relations between the two nations can prove very effective,” the National Academy head, Abdul Bari Rashid, told the conference.

Former Meshrano Jirga chairman, Sibghatullah Mujaddidi, on the occasion said both countries needed to be sincere in their relations.

In Tehran, Iran’s capital, he said, there was no mosque for Sunni Muslims. He said the solo Sunni sect mosque in Mashhad city of Iran had been destroyed.

Participants of the conference issued a nine-article resolution that insisted on paving the ground for interaction between university students of the two countries. It also called on Iran to increase scholarships for Afghan students.

The resolution also urged the establishment of joint academic committee and holding joint academic seminars, research works and others.
