KABUL): At least two people were killed and a dozen others wounded when a double-storey house collapsed on the outskirts of Kabul city on Friday, police said.
The incident occurred in Qanbar area in the limits of fifth police district of Kabul city, the 101 Asmae police zone commander, Col. Mohammad Zahir, told Pajhwok Afghan News. The reason behind the house collapse was yet to be known, but digging a new basement space adjacent to the house could be a result, he said.
Zahir confirmed two people had died and 12 others wounded in the incident that happened when family members and relatives were gathered for a Quran recitation programme. So far two dead bodies had been retrieved from beneath the rubble and search for others was underway, he said.
Witness Shahid Syed Rassoul said; “It was 10am when the house caved in all of a sudden.” He said a large number of people were present at the building.
The house owner, Masoud, said the dead included two women, a girl and a man and another 12 people were injured. He said a number of his relatives were attending a programme at his house when it collapsed.
