KABUL, officials said on Sunday.
The policemen were traveling to a checkpoint on Sunday morning when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Chashma area of Awba district in western Herat province.
Administrative head of the town, Syed Mohammad Maudoodi, told Pajhwok Afghan News an officer was among three policemen killed in the blast.
Four other policemen wounded in the attack were taken to hospital, he said, adding their injuries were not life-threatening.
Elsewhere in the province, a Taliban group leader was killed during a police operation in Korkh district late on Saturday.
“Mullah Khan Mohammad, a resident of Anbar village, recently returned from Iran to set up a group that operated against Afghan and foreign security forces in the district, “police spokesman Col. Noor Khan Nekzad said.
Separately, one policeman was killed and three others injured in a roadside bombing in the Spin Boldak border town of southern Kandahar province.
The blast took place at 8pm in the Rabat area, where a police vehicle struck a roadside bomb, said the 404th police zone commander, Maj. Gen. Mohammad Salim Ihsas.
The injured policemen were taken to hospital and their condition was stated to be stable, he said. No one has so far claimed responsibility for the bombing.
A former commander of Junbish-i-Mili, Hakim Palawan, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Gerziwan district of northern Faryab province.
Two gunmen shot the commander, loyal to Uzbek warlord Abdul Rashid Dostum, on Saturday evening in the Gowaki village, police spokesman Masoud Yaqubi said. Two suspects detained on the charge of the murder are under investigation.
