PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): Baghlan police handed over weapons and explosives seized in recent operations to the Disbandment of Illegal Armed Groups (DIAG) programme, an official said on Wednesday.
As many as 533 weapons and 2,000 bullets were handed over to DIAG, Brig. Gen Abdul Baghlan police chief Rahman Rahimi told a press conference. The weapons included Kalashnikovs, pistols, rocket-propelled grenades and heavy machine guns.
During the deweaponisation operation, 27 suspected militants were detained, the police chief said.
Lt. Col. Lala Gul, the DIAG chief for Baghlan, said they would retain serviceable weapons and discard the out-of-order pieces.
