SAR-I-PUL (PAN fighters killed two tribal elders and set on fire their bodies to avenge the death of their shadow district chief in the northern province of Sari-i-Pul, an official said on Saturday.
The two had been kidnapped from the Alghund village of Gosfandi district three days ago and their charred bodies were handed over to their families through tribal elders, provincial intelligence chief, Col. Sayed Jahangir, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Khair Mohammad and Mohammad were shot dead before their bodies were set on fire, he said.
The deaths were in retaliation for the killing of a Taliban-designated chief for Gosfandi district, Jahangir said, adding the victims had no link to the incident.
The elders were killed and burnt on the directive of a Taliban commander, Maulvi Nasruddin, he said. There was no immediate word from the insurgents about the incident.
In western Farah province, the rebels also killed two guards of the Angar Security Company who had been taken hostage two days back, said the police chief, Brig. Gen. Syed Mohammad Roshandil.
The private guards, kidnapped while escorting a logistic convoy of foreign soldiers, were killed in the Siah Ab village of Bakwah district, he said
