Projects worth $4m launched in Uruzgan

TIRINKOT (PAN): The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development on Sunday said it had launched a number of projects worth $4 million in a district of central Uruzgan province.

The schemes being implemented in Gezab district included construction works and water projects, the deputy minister, Barmak, told a gathering of tribal elders in the district.

He also said that 88 national solidarity councils would be set up as soon as possible to identify and monitor development projects.

The official also hinted at the construction of a big bridge over the Helmand River, saying design of the bridge had been finalised.

Tribal elder Haji Abdullah said only the bridge could not solve their problems, urging the government to pay attention toward fundamental projects in the district.

“Barmak is the only high official who visits the district,” Abdullah, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said people of his district needed work opportunities as their major problem was unemployment.
