KUNDUZ CITY(PAN.
The Pamir Police Zone commander, Gen. Daud Daud, and police chief Shah Jehan Noori were among four people killed in the massive bomb attack in Taloqan, Takhar’s capital, on Saturday.
During a visit to the province, Fahim said the death of Daud had a negative impact on the morale of the people. However, he added, the Taliban would not be able to achieve their goal by killing jihadi commanders.
“If Taliban want to achieve their objectives in this way, they are mistaken,” he said, because Afghans were united against the insurgents. Fahim promised Daud’s mission of defeating the fighters would be accomplished.
The May 28 blast also injured the governor and killed two German soldiers. Initial reports said it was a suicide attack, but later investigators found the explosion resulted from a bomb placed in the governor’s compound prior to a security meeting.
Fahim also met Kunduz Governor Anwar Jagdalak during his visit to the neighbouring province and discussed with him issues concerning security, development and reconstruction.
The VP said bringing peace and stability to Kunduz was the government’s top priority.
Jagdalak welcomed Fahim’s visit, saying the security situation had improved, compared to previous months.
