KABUL with three gold and as many silver medals got first position in the 8th South Asian Bodybuilding Championship concluded in Bhutan on Saturday, an official said on Sunday.
Starting June 1 at clock tower square in Thimphu, the event featured participants from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sari Lanka and the Maldives, spokesman of the National Olympic Committee, Mohammad Arif Paiman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Shurullah Helmandi, Hameedullah Sherzad and Zamari were among 10 Afghans obtaining gold medals, he said.
At the end of the contests, Afghanistan bodybuilding federation head, Bawar Hotak, was selected as deputy head of the South Asian Countries’ Congress Federation. Afghan Bodybuilding Federation secretary general, Zubair Mohsin, was selected as the congress secretary general, he said.
There are 1,150 bodybuilding clubs in Afghanistan, with 200 in Kabul alone, according to the federation.
