KABUL) and the US embassy in Kabul condemned on Saturday deadly attacks in Kandahar, Khost and Laghman provinces.
Fifteen Afghans were killed and one wounded when their vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED) in the Arghandab district of Kandahar. Four women and eight children were among those killed.
Afghan policemen were killed and wounded in attacks in Laghman and Khost provinces. Civilians were also among the casualties.
“Innocent people woke up this morning looking forward to a day off with their families or went to work as policemen sworn to protect their fellow Afghans,” the NATO-led force said.
“They will not return home today, despicably killed at the hands of insurgents bent on preventing peace and stability sought by the vast majority of the Afghan people,” said Rear Admiral Vic Beck, ISAF director of public affairs.
A statement from the US embassy said the attacks demonstrated the brutality of terrorism and the terrorists’ complete disregard for human life.
“We commend the brave police officers in Khost and Laghman who gave their lives in the service of their country. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims who were injured or killed today,” it added.
