SAR-I-PUL (PAN): A rebel commander and 29 of his fighters joined the peace process in northern Sar-i-Pul province on Monday, officials said.
Commander Zainullah joined the peace process and surrendered 28 different kinds of the weapons and a walkie-talkie, Asadullah Sherzad, the provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
This development will have positive effective on the peace process, he said.
Ghulam Sakhi, one of the surrendered men, said, “For three years we were fighting against the government. Now we understand that fighting is not useful for us.” He urged the government to provide job opportunities for them.
The inclusion of these individuals in the peace process can have a positive impact on the implementation of public works projects, said Provincial Governor Sayed Anwar Rahmati.
With this development, 380 militants in Sar-i-Pul province have joined the peace process.
