Violence claims 7 lives

KABUL, officials said on Tuesday.

Four fighters and a civilian were killed during a clash between police and Taliban in Khas Uruzgan district of central Uruzgan province, crime branch chief, Col. Gulab Khan, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The clash erupted late on Monday after the killing of a local police commander’s nephew by the insurgents, he said. Four militants were killed as a result of the ensuing clash, Col. Gulab added.

But a resident of the area, Ahmad Ali, said the police commander’s nephew was killed due to personal enmity.

Separately, unidentified gunmen shot dead a member of a local shura Zarif, outside his residence in Nadar Shah Kot district of southeastern Khost province on Monday night, said the district chief, Jamal Nasir.

The attackers managed to flee, but police are searching for them. Zarif also served as civic educator at the hajj department, said Maulvi Izharuddin, director of hajj and religious affairs.

Separately, one private security guard was killed and another injured at 7:30am when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in the Shah Kabul area of Nirkh district in of central Maidan Wardak province.

The district chief, Mohammad Hanif Hanifi, said the injured guard was taken to a military hospital in neighbouring Logar province. The vehicle of the company was also destroyed in the heavy blast.
