Hundreds rally for removal of Zabul court chief

QALAT (PAN): Hundreds of residents took to the streets on Wednesday, calling for the removal of the Zabul appellant court’s chief. 

Led by provincial council members, the protestors warned of blocking the highways leading to the provincial capital, Qalat, if the judge, Abdul Hadi Hamkar, was not fired.

Azizullah, the council chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News hundreds of people attended the rally against the judge in front of their office.

“If our demand goes unmet, we will stop cooperating with the government and close our office,” he said, urging the Attorney General to terminate the appellant court chief’s services as his presence was not in the interest of people and the government.

An organiser of the protest, Sardar Mohammad, complained they had been asking the authorities over the past 10 days to resolve the problem, but the government had done nothing so far.

“If the judge is not fired, we will launch a protest movement in the city and close highways,” he warned. The judge has been accused of corruption and bribes. Mohammad said they had evidence of the judge’s involvement in corruption.

However, the appellant court chief said people whose cases were being reviewed by him had organised the protest.
