In line with its policy, the multi-national force neither revealed the nationality of the fallen soldier, nor the exact location of the incident. However, mostly Italian soldiers are deployed in western Afghanistan, including Herat, Ghor and Farah provinces. Italy has 3,880 soldiers in Afghanistan.
With this latest casualty, the number of international troops killed in Afghanistan this year has reached 241. In 2010, the deadliest year for foreign forces so far, a total of 711 soldiers were killed.
