PUL-I-ALAM/MEHTARLAM (PAN): Unidentified gunmen kidnapped the secretary of the Logar Provincial Council and three others in the eastern province of Laghman, officials said on Saturday.

The incident took place on Wednesday in the Aziz Khan Kas area of Qarghae district in Laghman, head of Logar provincial council, Abdul Wali Wakil, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said that Logar Provincial Council Secretary Abdul Khaliq Khairkhwa was travelling on the Kabul-Jalalabad highway en route to Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, when he was abducted.

The kidnappers were wearing Afghan National Army uniforms, a security official said on condition of anonymity.

The perpetrators took the four men from their vehicle and left the car behind, the highway commander for Laghman province, Safa Gul, said.

No one so far has claimed responsibility for the abduction.

Last week, the husband of Parliamentarian Farishta Anwari was shot dead on the same highway in Laghman province.
