ASADABAD (PAN fighters were killed during a battle in the eastern province of Kunar, officials said on Tuesday.
The clash erupted on Monday evening in the Sagi area on the outskirts of Asadabad City, when Taliban attacked a convoy of ANA troops, the governor’s spokesman, Wasifullah Wasifi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Two Afghan soldiers were killed, five others injured, and two of their vehicles were damaged in the attack, he said.
During a retaliatory offensive, ANA troops killed eleven Taliban fighters and detained two video camera operators who were filming the battle, Wasifi said.
Both sides used heavy and light weaponry in the firefight, said a resident of the area, Abdul Ghafar. He had no information about casualties because the fighting took place at night and it was too dark to see, he said.
Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, confirmed the death of two Taliban fighters. He claimed that six Afghan and foreign soldiers were also killed in the gun battle.
