Hundreds of Afghan refugees complete technical training in Pakistan

QUETTA (PAN have graduated from technical training in several different fields, officials said on Saturday.

A school called the Technical Training Center (TTC), based in Baluchistan’s capital city of Quetta, has issued certificates in carpentry, tailoring, plumbing, and automotive repair to 200 Afghan men and women.

Mohammad Ali, a student in the center, told Pajhwok Afghan News that before enrolling in training, he could not make enough money to support himself despite working full time.

“A few months ago, I enrolled in this centre, and now I can fix cars,” he said.

Dalawar Khan, another student of the centre, said that he is a plumber and that he now has the skills to open his own business.

He said: “We received certificates and tools, and we also got paid 8000 Pakistani rupees a month,” or about 419 Afs or $9.30 USD.

The graduates were all poor or disabled and have been trained in order to return home and contribute to Afghan reconstruction, according to Afghan Consul General Bahadur Khan.

Ali Kakar, the director of TTC, said the trainees can now work in a number of different fields across Afghanistan.
