SHIBERGHAN (PAN): A clean drinking water supply project benefitting nearly 44,000 families in 178 villages of northern Jawzjan province has been completed, an official said on Wednesday.
The project, which was inaugurated on Wednesday by officials of the Ministry ofRural Rehabilitation and Development, will provide access to potable water in eight districts of the province where clean water was scarce before, said Mohammad Yousuf, provincial Rural Rehabilitation and Development Director.
He said the project answered the long-standing needs of the province’s people, who had long been vulnerable to water-borne diseases.
The director said the project would benefit thousands of families in Qushtapa, Darzab, Khwaja Dokoh, Aqcha, Mangajak Mardan, Faizabad, Khanaqah and some other nearby villages around Shibirghan, the provincial capital.
The water supply project was funded by UNICEF and cost 18million afghanis, or around $380,000 USD.
