KABUL): Five private security companies connected to high-ranking government officials were dissolved, the Interior Ministry said Sunday.
The companies had license to operate and were dissolved in the past three days, Major Gen. Sayed Abdul Ghafar Sayedzada, the counterinsurgency chief in the Interior Ministry, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The dissolved companies included NCL, Elite, Shaphard, SSSI, and LCG. Among them they owned 457 different kinds of weapons and 59 Walkie Talkies, all of which have been entrusted to the Disbandment of Illegal Armed Group (DIAG), Sayedzada said.
There are 52 private security companies are active in the country altogether, 27 of them foreign and 25 domestic, the counterinsurgency chief said.
The remaining companies will dissolve in February, 2012. After that, police will assume the security responsibility of all organizations and companies, Sayedzada said.
