GHAZNI CITY(PAN) has begun development projects in Ghazni City in anticipation of 2013, when Ghazni City will be named the Islamic Civilization and Cultural capital by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (IESCO), the head of the Polish PRT said Monday.
PRT head Col. Cezary addressed journalists at the PRT camp following US Independence Day celebrations. He said that the Polish PRT would administer about 29 development projects.
He added that 12 of the projects were already under way and that the rest would begin soon. He also said the US PRT has about 11 development projects in Ghazni.
He said the Polish PRT projects will cost round about $ 7 million (USD) and will include the construction of streets, recreational facilities, and electrical utilities.
Poland has operated projects both large and small in Ghazni. Some of them have been criticized for low quality.
The project plans for the Polish PRT include constructing a 16 kilometer street and water pipes. Residents have criticized the projects.
Mohammad Naeem, city resident and tribal elder, says that if the water pipes will be low quality, the Polish PRT may as well not construct them.
He added that he had spoken with the water supply department and the provincial council about Ghazni’s water problems, but that officials had not resolved the issue.
The nature of the 11 US projects is not yet clear.
