JALALABAD (PAN): Afghan and international security officials on Wednesday said most parts of Dara Pech district in eastern Nangarhar province have been cleared of insurgents as a result of a successful operation.
Launched two weeks ago, the offensive targeted militants in the Dara Pech and Wata Pur districts and other nearby areas, officials said.
More than 100 militants were killed and dozens of others were wounded in clashes with the joint security forces, a spokesman for the international troops in the region, Major David, told Pajhwok Afghan News. The joint offensive was aimed at pushing back the insurgents from Pech Dara, he said. He said the operation was led by Afghan National Army.
The 201 Selab Military Corps spokesman, Sherin Agha, told Pajhwok Afghan News that they had launched operations in eastern zones for five times.
The recently concluded operation in Pech Dara was aimed at securing highways and driving away insurgents, he said.
