MEHTARLAM (PAN): Unidentified gunmen abducted a district police chief of neighbouring Nuristan province along with his three bodyguards in eastern Laghman province, Laghman police chief said on Friday.
Allah Dad, the Doab district police chief, was travelling in a car with his three bodyguards when unknown gunmen intercepted their vehicle in Laghman’s Alingar district early on Friday, Col. Ghulam Azizi told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The police official was heading toward home in the district when abducted, he said.
Alingar’s district police chief, Adam Khan, also confirmed the incident, saying Allah Dad was a resident of Mango area in Alingar district. Allah Dad wanted to travel home from Nuristan to his village, he said.
The gunmen torched Allah Dad’s vehicle before the kidnapping, he said. There has been no claim of responsibility for the adduction so far.
Nuristan governor Jamaluddin Badr on Thursday said border police in Kamdish district have been besieged and, with only 160 policemen, are unable to secure the province’s 70-kilometre border with Pakistan.
In a telephonic interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, the governor said that groups of militants had snuck into the district from Pakistan’s Chitral district.
