SHARANA (PAN): Scores of tribal elders and youth attended a gathering in support of the special court’s verdict on the Parliamentary election, a tribal elder said on Monday.
Abdul Samad Shahid, a tribal elder in Sharana city, told the gathering on behalf of the city’s tribes that the Independent Election Commission (IEC) had invalided genuine poll results and disqualified the real winners of the Parliamentary election in Paktika.
Shahid said the decision of the special tribunal tasked with investigating the allegations of widespread fraud must be enforced.
He said if the case was appealed, the establishment of the special election tribunal was unproductive.
Malak Zahir Katawazai, who represents the tribes of the Katawaz district, told the gathering that the public had participated in the election in the face of insecurity, sometimes at the cost of their lives, hoping for a responsible Parliament.
He said that the Independent Election Commission had spoiled the aspirations of the people and disregarded their votes.
Malak requested that the decision of the special tribunal be enforced.
By the same token, a number of Paktika’s other tribal elders, including Pacha Khan Sharanwal, asked the government to respect the court’s verdict and introduce the successful candidates to the Wolesi Jirga.
The special tribunal’s verdict would nullify the electoral victory of three of Paktika’s MPs, two men and a woman.
