Hamza Baba mausoleum bombed

ISLAMABAD (PAN‘s northwestern tribal region of Khyber, an official said on Friday.

The boundary wall of Amir Hamza Baba’s tomb partially collapsed as a result of the predawn bombing in the Landikotal town, near the border with Afghanistan, local official Gul Faraz Afridi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

However, the poet’s grave and a library close to it suffered no harm in the explosion, which shattered windowpanes in nearby buildings, said tribal elder Mir Mohammad Shinwari.

Pakistani militants, who have blown up hundreds of schools in the northwest, blew up the shrine of legendary Sufi poet Abdur Rehman Baba in March 2009, days after the grave’s watchman received threats. 

Located in the Hazarkhwani area on the outskirts of Peshawar, Rahman Baba’s tomb is part of a spacious complex housing a conference hall, library, mosque, canteen, guesthouse and small shrines of some other saints.
