ZARANJ (PAN): Four militants were killed and five others injured in two separate clashes with security forces in southwestern Nimroz province, an official said on Tuesday.
But the Taliban claimed killing six policemen and injuring nine others during the gunbattles.
A police logistic convoy came under attack in the Pushta Hasan area of Khashrod district late on Monday night, the town’s administrative head told Pajhwok Afghan News.
In the ensuing clash, two attackers were killed and five others injured, Mohammad Hashim Nawrozi said.
Provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Abdul Jabbar Purdali, confirmed the incident, saying police suffered no causalities.
Juma Khan, a bus driver, said the firefight lasted two hours.
A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, said the fighters attacked a joint convoy of police and foreign forces in the area, killing six Afghan soldiers.
One insurgent was also killed and nine others were injured during the clash. A military tank and two others vehicles were destroyed, Ahmadi added.
In neighbouring Faryab province, two guerrillas were killed during a fight with police in Almar district. The clash erupted after a group of insurgents stormed a police check-post in the Qurda Qala area, the district chief, Mohammad Omar, said.
