KUNDUZ CITY (PAN): An influential person has been abducted by unidentified gunmen in northern Kunduz province, an official said on Tuesday.
Haji Abdul Aziz, the father of Rayees Abdul Baqi, a renowned businessman, was kidnapped on Tuesday morning on his way home from a mosque in Kunduz city.
Police spokesman Sayed Sarwar Hossaini told Pajhwok Afghan News that Abdul Aziz was abducted by unidentified gunmen in the second police district. He said it was unknown as yet that where the victim had been taken.
He said that the kidnapping had been carried out for ransom money. Police had launched an investigation into the incident.
Resident Haji Nasratullah said that three masked men put Haji Abdul Aziz into a car while he was shouting for help.
Abdul Aziz is a money changer and owns a shop in Kundoz City. He also exports dried fruits from Afghanistan to Tajikistan.
The abduction took place near a police check post, but police could not prevent the incident, the resident alleged. But his claim was rejected by police.
It was the third incident of its kind in Kundoz since the start of this year.
Another businessman Haji Mohammad Nasim was abducted a month back by unknown gunmen from the Aliabad-Khanabad highway. He was later released by police during an operation on earlier this month.
