ASADABAD (PAN-led forces in eastern Nuristan province, a senior official said on Monday.
International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) soldiers also took away two policemen to their base following the strike in the checkpoint in Tarnak area of Wama district, Governor Jamaluddin Badr told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Although the governor called the air raid mistaken, a senator from Nuristan, Hafiz Abdul Qayyum, insisted that the international forces had intentionally killed the policemen.
“NATO-led soldiers have deliberately killed the policemen; they detained another 12.” Commander of the quick reaction force, Abdul Malik, was also among the detained police officials, he claimed.
On May 28, 17 policemen and 67 militants were killed in a NATO-led airstrike, in Dawab district of the province.
Asked about the incident, the ISAF media office said: “We are aware of a statement from Afghan officials in Nuristan province alleging a friendly fire incident. We are currently looking into the matter and more information will be released as it is available.”
