SHARAN (PAN): The first-ever township for government servants was inaugurated in Sharan, capital of southeastern Paktika province, on Saturday. The distribution of plots also got underway simultaneously.
“Before this project, government servants had no township in the province,” Paktika Mohibullah Samim Governor told Pajhwok Afghan News at the inaugural ceremony for the housing scheme.
Government employees are facing accommodation problems, both in rural and urban areas, according to the governor, who said some 1,000 plots would be allocated.
The township would have four mosques, two colleges, 29 commercial markets, roads, electricity, drinking water, parks and other facilities, he promised.
Mayor Muhammad Zahir said the township had been built in compliance with President Hamid Karzai’s orders and Urban Development Department’s approval.
