JALALABAD (PAN): Border police seized one tonne of drugs after an hour-long exchange of fire with smugglers in the Pachir Agam district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Tuesday.
The hashish was seized in the Kung village of the district late on Monday night, border police chief Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the clash caused no casualties. The border police did not have sufficient resources to control the long porous border with Pakistan, said Amarkhel.
Aircraft had repeatedly been sought from NATO-led forces and the interior ministry for aerial patrols of the border, but the request was yet to be granted, he complained.
