3 militants killed in Kandahar

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN-Afghan operations in the Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province, officials said on Thursday.

The operations were carried out in the Band Taimur area of the district, the governor’s spokesman, Zalmay Ayubi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.                                                                                                                                                                

Ammunitions, 125 kilograms of explosives, a huge quantity of ammonium nitrate and 40 landmines were seized from two depots, he said.

District chief Haji Obaidullah Bawari confirmed the operations and said possible acts of terror had been averted. The security situation in nearby districts would improve as a result of the offensives, he hoped.
