MAIMANA (PAN): A provincial intelligence chief succumbed to his injuries at an ISAF facility in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, on Monday, officials said.
Faryab National Directorate of Security (NDS) head, Brig. Gen. Syed Ahmad Sadat, was wounded along with seven others in a suicide bombing in the Guzar Tatar Khana area of Maimana, the provincial capital, a week ago.
A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, claimed the attack targeted Sadat on his way to the office. Sadat was seriously wounded and six of his guards were killed, Ahmadi said, adding he was rushed to an International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) health facility.
Deputy NDS chief, Peghambar Qul, confirmed Sadat had succumbed to his injuries.
His body would be transferred to Faryab later in the day and laid to rest tomorrow, said the head of provincial peace council, Maulvi Asadullah.
