JALALABAD (PAN) killed 27 militants during an airstrike in eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday, officials said.
Warplanes bombarded the insurgents after a joint ISAF-Afghan patrol came under attack in the Nazyan district of the province, a statement issued from the Bagram airbase said.
A number of militants were killed during the raid in the Sra Lalma area, said the governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai. He did not give specific casualty figures, saying security forces escaped unhurt.
District chief, Mamur Issa, confirmed the clash but he had no information about the causalities.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, admitted casualties to 11 fighters and said they had destroyed two vehicles of Afghan soldiers, killing all those on board.
