JALALABAD (PAN) troops in the eastern province of Nangarhar, the alliance said on Tuesday.
The operation was conducted on Tuesday morning in Surkhrod district, ISAF said in a statement, accusing the detainees of delivering supplies to insurgents in the area.
“During the operation, two individuals were observed displaying hostile intent toward the security force. Assessing an immediate threat, the security force engaged, killing both insurgents,” the statement added.
District chief, Syed Ali Akbar Sadat, and the governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, confirmed the death of two people during the operation in the Dand village of the district, but they did not say whether the victims were civilians or militants.
However, tribal elder Zarghun said that the victims were ordinary people who had no links with militants.
Another resident of the area, Bahadar, alleged the NATO-led soldiers also took away money and gold from the house they raided.
