LASHKARGAH/SHARAN (PAN fighters were killed and seven others injured during joint operations in Helmand and Paktika provinces, officials said on Thursday.
The insurgents were killed during a joint offensive in the Khwajakhel area on the outskirts of Sharan, Paktika’s capital, the governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Mukhlis Afghan said four motorbikes, two remote-controlled bombs and a car were seized from militants during the overnight operation.
The ISAF confirmed the killing of two insurgents and capture of two others along with two AK-47 rifles during a joint patrol in the area.
Elsewhere in the country, five rebels were detained and a large quantity of explosives and drugs seized by Afghan and International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) soldiers in southern Helmand province.
A statement from the governor’s office said 173 kilograms of opium, 25 uniforms, two machine guns, eight AK-47s, one rocket-propelled grenade (RPG), two pistols, as many hand grenades, five walkie-talkies and three boxes of machine-gun bullets were seized.
