GARDEZ/ LASHKARGAH (PAN): Thousands of kilograms of drugs were seized during operations in Paktia and Helmand provinces, officials said on Saturday.
Sixty-four bags of hashish, weighing 4,500 kilograms, were recovered by police in the Ahmadabad districts of Paktia, a statement from the governor’s office said.
No one was detained in connection with the narcotics, according to the statement, which said seven mortar shells were also seized in the area. Drug traffickers wanted to smuggle the hashish to Pakistan.
Separately, police recovered 280 kilograms of opium from a car in the Washer district of Helmand on Friday. The traffickers managed to flee, the governor’s house said.
