KABUL): About 380 armed insurgents, including 19 commanders, had joined the peace process in northwestern Badghis province, an intelligence official said on Sunday.
The joining was a result of joint efforts by the National Directorate of Security (NDS, NDS spokesman told a press conference in Kabul.
Lotfullah Mashal said the surrendering militants had vowed not to return to violence and remain part of the peace process.
Since the establishment of the high peace council, more than 800 armed individuals had joined the peace process in Badghis.
Mashal said hundreds others armed individuals, including their leaders had joined the reconciliation plan in Herat, Laghman, Kunar, Kapisa and Helmand.
