KABUL: Seven Taliban militants were killed and two others injured during a clash with Afghan National Army (ANA) troops in the Sarobi district of central Kabul province, an official said on Monday.

The clash erupted in Wrekhmin Tangi area on the Kabul-Jalalabad Highway when a group of militants opened fire on ANA patrolling vehicles, a spokesman for the 201st Selab Military Crops, Col. Nouman Hatifi, told Pajhwok Afghan News. He said two soldiers were injured in the attack.

The district chief, Hazrat Mohammad Haqbin, said the clash took place after ANA troops keeping security for the highway came under attack from insurgents. Two motorbikes belonging to the attacker were also seized, he said.

There has been no word from the Taliban about the incident.

Meanwhile, foreign forces claimed arresting four militants during an operation in the Sherzad district of eastern Nangarhar province, but the district chief said the detainees were civilians.

The four men were arrested with arms and explosive materials during a raid on a house late on Sunday night, the International Security and Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement.

The detainees are being interrogated, it said.

However, the district chief, Mirza Mohammad Nusrat, said they had no evidence proving connections between the detainees and militants.

He said the foreign forces had recovered two Kalashnikovs from the house and immediately burnt the weapons.
