GARDEZ (PAN): A campaign for removing security barriers along roads and confiscating unregistered vehicles was launched in Gardez city, the capital of southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Wednesday.
Most of government buildings in the city had security barriers in their front, while security check posts are established near residential houses.
“All security barriers are being removed and unregistered vehicles confiscated during the drive,” deputy police chief, Syed Zakeria, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the first round of the drive was launched with the removal of a check post in front of the police headquarters.
Zakeria said all security walls in front of government offices would be removed in the presence of a visiting delegation from Kabul.
Mayor Agha Mohammad Syedi said removing cabins selling fruits and vegetables and handcarts used for the same purpose in the city was part of the campaign.
A handcart owner, Mohammadullah, claimed the area had already been specified for them.
