ASADABAD (PAN released the remaining 16 children held hostage in September last year in the Bajaur tribal region, the insurgents announced on Friday.
The Taliban seized 28 children who had gone for picnic on the second day of the religious festival of Eidul Fitr in the lawless region near the Afghan border four months and 10 days ago.
However, the kidnappers released a dozen of them for being too young and held captive the rest.
The Taliban had said the youth belonged to the area where an anti-Taliban force was active and demanded the release of their prisoners in exchange for the children.
However, a spokesman for the rebels, Ihsanullah Ihsan, told Pajhwok Afghan News over the telephone from an undisclosed location they had released the remaining children without any condition on the directives of their leader, Maulvi Dadullah.
He said the children were not harmed during captivity.
