Karzai and Koichiro Gemba discussed preparations for the major meeting on Afghanistan, a statement from the Presidential Palace said. They hoped the event would prove beneficial for Afghanistan.
The Tokyo conference, due in July this year, is expected to address the issue of coordination of international economic assistance through the transition period.
Gemba said the Afghan finance ministry would detail priority development projects ahead of the meeting, which would emphasise regional cooperation.
Karzai thanked the Japanese government for its assistance to Afghanistan. “Despite being hit an earthquake and tsunami, Japan is supporting Afghanistan. It shows the goodwill of the Japanese government and people for Afghanistan.”
