Mahipar pass reopens

JALALABAD (PAN-Jalalabad highway reopened for traffic after remaining closed for several hours due to snow avalanches at the Mahipar pass on Sunday, an official said.

Public Works Ministry employees sprayed salt and sand on the busy road to melt down the snow and ice, an official responsible for security on the Kabul-Sarobi highway, Halim Khan, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The highway was reopened late on Sunday, Khan said, fearing the road could be blocked again if the snowfall continued.  

A manager at the Kabul-Jalalabad bus stand, Sabar Gul, said vehicles remained stranded at both ends for several hours.
