Wrong competition sends fuel prices soaring: Ahadi

KABUL

Dr. Anwarul Haq Ahadi told Pajhwok Afghan News traders, in an effort to win bids, had purchased fuel in Turkmenistan at high rates. The move had led to increased fuel prices in the country, he added.

“The Turkmen firms sell fuel to Afghan traders at a high rate,” he said, but his ministry had appointed a delegation to deal with the issue. The delegation would identify such traders illegal imports would not be allowed, he explained.   

According to the ministry, nearly 12 domestic companies import fuel from Turkmenistan.

Afghanistan needs three millions tonnes of petroleum products a year, with 30 percent arriving from Turkmenistan.
