KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Seventy-one policemen completed a six-month training course in southern Kandahar province on Sunday, officials said.

The graduates were awarded certificates on completing the course at a ceremony held in Kandahar city. The ceremony was attended by Afghan and international security officials.

The recruits hailed from Kandahar, Zabul and Uruzgan provinces, the training centre head, Brig. Gen. Nasarullah Zarifi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The policemen would be deployed to the three provinces to maintain the law and order situation there, Zarifi said.

However, the 404th Maiwand Zone police commander Gen. Muhammad Salim Ihsas said police needed more training in specialised areas and that the six-month training was not enough.
