During the meeting, Obama received an update on the building of capable Afghan security forces, America’s support for an Afghan-led reconciliation process and its efforts to build a long-term strategic partnership between the US and Afghanistan, the White House said in a statement.
According to the statement, Obama also received an update on preparations for the NATO Summit in Chicago in May.
At the summit which would also be attended by the Afghan president Hamid Karzai, the US would further define the ongoing security transition from international troops to the Afghan security personnel and NATO’s commitment to the future of Afghanistan as agreed to at the 2010 NATO Summit in Lisbon, the White House, said.
“The US President received an update on our engagement with the Pakistani Government on a range of issues of mutual interest, including efforts to strengthen cooperation along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border,” it concluded.
