GARDEZ (PAN gathered in southeastern Paktia province on Monday, voicing their support for the ongoing peace process and seeking a role in the parleys.
Girls and women, coming all the way from Ahmadabad, Syed Karam, Sammkanai and Zazai Aryub districts, met at the Women’s Affairs Department in Gardez.
The participants urged the government and the international community to ensure women’s participation in the peace endeavour.
Women’s Affairs Director Halima Khazan told Pajhwok Afghan News women could play a positive role in bringing peace to the country. Their contribution to stability was vital, she acknowledged.
”Women are mothers and sisters and they want to live in peace. They can strengthen efforts at bringing peace to the country,” she believed.
Provincial council member Zarghona Himmat asked women to help men in reconciliation efforts. “Women are a symbol of peace and love and their voice influences men,” she remarked.
A human right activist in the southeastern zone, Jamila, said women were bearing the brunt of the conflict. “Women were most affected by the death of a child, man or youth.”
