SHIBERGHAN (PAN): The Ministry of Public Works on Wednesday announced the launch of three major projects in northern Jawzjan province.
The schemes include laying a 120 kilometres a railway line and paving a six-km road between the Qush Tepa district and the provincial capital, Shiberghan.
Dr. Ahmad Shah, deputy minister of public works, told Pajhwok Afghan News a survey for asphalting a 60-km ring road had been completed.
Work on the Balkh-Jawzjan railtrack had begun, he said, without giving the cost of the projects being funded by the public works ministry.
Governor Mohammad Alam Sai said the major projects had been approved by the Cabinet. Residents were impatiently awaiting their launch, he added.
Meanwhile, acting Public Works Director Attaullah said initial work on the ring road had got under way. Hundreds of people would get jobs opportunities on the railroad project, he said.
