CHAGHCHARAN (PAN province, officials said on Monday.
A house caved in after being struck by a snow avalanche in the Zatali locality on the outskirts of Chaghcharan, the provincial capital, on Sunday night, killing two members of a family and wounding two others.
The Afghan Natural Disasters Management Authority (ANDMA) director for Ghor told Pajhwok Afghan News another two avalanches in Marghab and Dolina districts left three people wounded.
All roads connecting the provincial capital with districts have been blocked due to heavy snowfall, he added.
Muhammad Eqbal, the public works department head, said the snowfall that began three days ago was still continuing. Two metres of snow had closed several roads, he said, adding it would take 20 days to reopen the routes because his department lacked heavy machinery to remove the snow.
Sher Ahmad, a resident of the Qatas village, said their area had been cut off from the provincial capital over the past few days. Residents faced food shortages and animal feed, he said, urging the government to take urgent measures for reopening the roads and air-drop relief in the area.
