$20m earmarked for Ghazni projects

GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Funds amounting to $20 million (986.4 million afs) have been set aside for development projects to be completed next year in southern Ghazni province, officials said on Saturday.

Governor Musa Khan Akbarzada told a meeting in Ghazni City, the provincial capital, that some of the projects would be launched in a month.

“One mega project is the construction of the Islamic Cultural Centre, which is estimated to cost almost $ 17 million,” the governor said, adding the Ministry of Finance had allocated $10 million for the project in compliance with a presidential order.

Akbarzada informed $10 million had been pledged in assistance by the provincial reconstruction teams (PRTs) of the US and Poland for next year’s development schemes. He said 30 projects would be executed with support from the teams.

Chabielski, the Polish PRT deputy head, said they would provide $7 million for 15 development projects in the province. Poland has spent $18 million on different projects between 2008 and 2011, he recalled.

The gathering decided that a company should be awarded only one contract for a project at a time in order to ensure work quality.
