QALA-I-NAW (PAN): Six Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed and 16 others injured in a bomb explosion in the northwestern province of Badghis on Saturday, the defence ministry said.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning when soldiers of the 207th Zafar Military Corps were defusing a bombing in the Maqur district, the ministry said in a statement.
District chief, Ziaullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News the soldiers had discovered the bomb in the Boom Dara area on Friday evening. As they were defusing the bomb at their base this morning, militants exploded the device with a remote-control device.
Deputy Governor Abdul Ghani Saberi confirmed the blast, giving no further details. No one has so far claimed responsibility for the detonation.
