Ghazni Civil Hospital in danger of collapse

GHAZNI CITY (PAN): The Ghazni Civil Hospital is in danger of collapse and should be vacated soon, a joint team of construction and technical experts said on Monday.

The delegation coming from Kabul examined the building and noted it was about to cave in, the hospital director, Dr Baz Mohammad Himmat, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said: “The mud hospital was constructed about 63 years ago and its roof is made of wood.” The technical delegation had asked them to vacate the building as soon as possible, he added.

“Ghazni needs a large and new hospital at the earliest, as the current facility cannot meet public needs,” he said. The foundation stone of a new 200-bed hospital was laid two years ago, but construction work could not be launched so far.

Public Health director Dr Zia Gul Asfandi confirmed that the hospital was on the verge of crumbling, saying that the Ministry of Public Health had been informed about the situation.

She urged the government to resolve the problem with immediate effect, saying patients from Zabul, Paktika and Maidan Wardak provinces also visited the facility.

Provincial council head Qazi Sahib Shah stressed the construction of a new building and said almost half a million people were reliant on the hospital.
